Cody Sowell

Missions Ministry Leader

About

Cody was born and raised in Pace, FL, and graduated from Pace High School before shipping out to Navy Boot Camp. While stationed on the USS Frank Cable (AS-40) in Guam, he was deployed to 10 countries in and around Asia and the Middle East. He earned, among other decorations, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his service to various Christian charities in those areas of responsibility.

Cody married Meredith in 2017 after returning stateside, and they moved to their next duty station in Connecticut. After the end of his military contract, Cody pursued an AS in Engineering from Connecticut State College and a BFA in Production Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Cody and Meredith moved home in 2022 to open The Makery: A Hometown Bakeshop. They were planted exactly where God had wanted them, and they began attending IBC that year. Because of his love for Jesus and others, as well as his experience operating in foreign areas, Cody answered the call to become missions leader at IBC in 2025.

Cody has a passion for discipleship, teaching, and equipping church members to pray, serve, and go wherever God has called them, whether that is to Japan or across the street!
