SALVATION

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE SAVED?

2 Peter 3: 9:  The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

1. You Can't Get Saved Until You Get Lost.

Romans 3: 23: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6: 23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 59:2:  But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have made Him hide [His] face from you so that He does not listen.

Every single human to ever live on the face of the earth apart from Jesus Christ Himself has sinned. That is, each person has done things that God did not want them to do and as a result are separated from God. As a result, each person deserves to be eternally separated from God in Hell. It is impossible for a holy, perfect, God to be in communion with fallen, imperfect, man. The first step to being saved is for one to realize that they are separated from God and need a way to be made right with God.

2. There are No Good Works that Can Save You.

Proverbs 14: 12: There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Matthew 7: 21-23: "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but [only] the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. On that day many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name? Then I will announce to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!

Ephesians 2: 8-9: For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift—not from works, so that no one can boast.

It is important to understand that there is nothing that you can do to save yourself. There are no human works or human efforts that could ever be good enough to justify you in the eyes of our holy God. It is only through the grace of God that any person can be saved.

3. Jesus Came to Save the Lost.

Romans 5: 8:  But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!

John 14: 6: Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Because we serve a God of infinite grace and mercy, we have been given an opportunity to be made right with Him through the act of His son, Jesus Christ, dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus Christ is the bridge that fills the great void between sinful man and holy God, and serves as the great mediator for every man, woman, boy, and girl that accepts what He has done for them on the cross.

4. Accepting the Gift of Salvation is as Easy as A,B,C.

Romans 10: 9: If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord,"  and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,  you will be saved.

2 Corinthians 5: 17:  Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.

Admit: First you must admit that you are a sinner and that you understand that your sin separates you from God. You must admit that you are a sinner and ask God for forgiveness of those sins. You must ask Him to do something that you are unable to do and that is to save you from your sins. Once you ask for forgiveness for your sins, you must "repent", or turn away from that sin and choose to live your life for God an in accordance with His Word.

Believe: You must have faith that the Bible is God's Word and that Jesus Christ did do all of the things the Bible claims that He did; most importantly the acts of dying on the cross for the sins of all mankind and rising from the dead three days later. You must believe that God resurrected Jesus from the dead and now Jesus has ascended into Heaven.

Confess: You must confess that you cannot save yourself and you need God to save you. You must confess to God that you understand that it is only through His grace and mercy that you have the opportunity to be saved. As a result, you must confess to God that you want Him to save you, take control of your life, and that it is your desire for Him to live His life through you.

Once you do these things the Bible teaches that you will receive the Holy Spirit of God and that you will be a new creature. No longer are you a slave to sin; but rather are free to live your life for the Lord. You are also justified before God through the shed blood of His son Jesus Christ and will one day be glorified in Heaven. You have a home waiting for you, and your eternal life is secure in the Lord's hands.
